Franchised Food Company goes international this month, with Cold Rock Ice Creamery smashing its way into the global market. The Aussie ice creamery announced its expansion to Vietnam, the first international move for Cold Rock under parent company Franchised Food Company.
Very soon Cold Rock will open three stores in Ho Chi Minh City, while pretzel lovers will be able to shop at the first international Pretzel World store in Dubai early next year.
Stan told Smart Company that the opportunity arose when he was approached by a Vietnamese national following a personal holiday in Vietnam, and the rest he says, is history.
“I jumped at the opportunity,” he says. “I thought, ‘this is perfect’. All the stars aligned, it was meant to be.”
The FFCo CEO says that it’s definitely not the first time he has been approached to move the Cold Rock brand overseas, and continually receives requests from parties globally who want to take any number of the Franchised Food Company brands international. He stresses the importance of aligning only with the ‘right’ sort of partners…. and for Cold Rock, Ho Chi Minh City is a great springboard for further international expansion.

For success, Stan contends “You need a local influence and the local culture”, something that will be incorporated into Cold Rock’s Vietnamese presence. The ice cream will be made in Vietnam using Australian technology and ingredients, but adapted to the Vietnamese taste palate.
