Local businessman Sam Wahala is the new owner of Cold Rock Ice Creamery Chermside.
With 14 years’ experience in sales and marketing, Mr Wahala has the business savvy and skills required to sell Cold Rock’s custom-made ice creams that limit customers only by imagination.
Mr Wahala said his marketing background would certainly help but it was the Cold Rock product itself that was the vital ingredient to franchisee success.
“The Cold Rock franchise, as a business, has a huge amount of potential,” Mr Wahala said.
“People love ice cream and people love Cold Rock because each time the customer visits it is a fun experience to come in and decide exactly what to get.
“The timing of this opportunity was perfect because after a long time in the marketing industry, I was looking for a change in direction with my work.”
Mr Wahala is originally from Sri Lanka but migrated to Brisbane seven years ago.
He lives in Bald Hills with his wife Reshani, and it is his local knowledge of Brisbane’s northern suburbs that ultimately led to his decision to purchase the franchise.
“Cold Rock Chermside has a huge amount of business potential because of its excellent location,” he said.
“Westfield Shopping Centre in Chermside is the biggest shopping centre in Brisbane with over 400 retailers, so every day the foot traffic is enormous.”
Mr Wahala said the store, positioned on ground level of the shopping centre, offered Cold Rock’s original range of more than 3,000 different combinations of ice cream, sorbets and ‘mix ins’ including M&Ms, caramel fudge and Kit Kats.
“There are thousands of different combinations to try and it is this choice that makes coming to Cold Rock such an exciting and ever-changing experience,” he said.
Stan Gordon, Managing Director of Cold Rock, welcomed Mr Wahala to the brand and said customers could expect special deals, in-store promotions and competitions following the changeover in management.
